Sustainability & Biodiversity at Broadleaves
Broadleaves Glamping is in a lovely corner of our family farm in Derbyshire. The farm is part of the countryside stewardship scheme and sustainable farm initiatives which have helped us further enhance our environment by restoring wildlife habitats and creating woodlands. We are in the heart of the National Forest and, in collaboration with the National Forest Company, we have planted and maintained more than 100,000 trees over the last 25 years - a figure that is still increasing. This means that the landscape changes throughout the seasons offering some beautiful colours and sounds.
As part of the construction of the glamping site we undertook to hugely improve biodiversity. ADAS measured a verified increase of over 70% in biodiversity (BNG). This included the planting of more trees, woodland shrubs, wild flowers, erecting bird and bat boxes and leaving logs piles for insect habitats. All of this can be seen and enjoyed by our guests.
The site is largely powered by our own solar array and we use an off grid drainage system (whilst still providing luxury bathrooms with flushing toilets, rainfall showers and luxury eco toiletries). Rustic doesn’t need to mean basic! Logs used for our wood fired hot tubs, log burners and fire pits are all sourced for our own sustainably managed woodlands and left to dry and season naturally.
The fire pits enjoyed at each tent are handmade in Wales and feature a cooking grill and hot plate for outdoor cooking. Or, if you prefer, you can cook in your own private covered outdoor kitchen where each kitchen worktop unit has been built by us from reclaimed and recycled wooden fence rails to continue the sustainable approach.
We are passionate about our landscape, its biodiversity and environmental sustainability as you can see!
